Nearly three years after first becoming a target for destruction by state and federal government agencies, Morningland Dairy of Mountain View, Missouri, has officially and forcibly been driven out of business by a rogue police state that recently confiscated, at gunpoint, most of the farm’s inventory of perfectly safe, raw cheese, which was valued at roughly $250,000.

Morningland first found itself entangled in a government-initiated war against raw food back in 2005 when undercover agents targeted Rawesome Foods, a Venice, California-based private food buying club, for the “crime” of selling wholesome food to health-conscious club members. Five years later, in 2010, armed officials from local, state, federal, and even foreign government agencies came and raided the club at gunpoint, stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of farm-fresh food products, including raw milk cheese products made by Morningland.

Not surprisingly, the government thugs responsible for stealing food from Rawesome failed to follow their own confiscation protocols when they hauled off the cheese and other refrigerated goods in room-temperature crates rather than iced coolers, possibly subjecting these products to spoilage and contamination. And instead of immediately testing the allegedly tainted products, officials took their sweet time and waited an entire week before eventually claiming that the products, including Morningland‘s cheese, were tainted with harmful bacteria.

Not long after, officials from the Missouri Milk Board (MMB) suddenly started harassing Morningland, and jointly with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered the farm to destroy 50,000 pounds of perfectly safe, raw, artisan cheese worth more than $250,000. Besides representing the farm’s entire inventory, not a single pound of this 50,000 pounds had ever tested positive for bacterial contamination. In fact, neither the MMB nor the FDA had ever tested any of the cheese for safety prior to ordering its destruction.

When Morningland‘s owners tried to reason with the officials, explaining to them that the cheese samples collected in California were not properly stored or tested during the raid, their petitions fell on deaf ears. Morningland even offered to conduct its own independent tests on cheese samples from every production batch in its inventory to prove their safety, but the MMB and the FDA ultimately refused. Now, nearly three years later, the MMB, with the help of numerous government lackeys, has forcibly removed most of Morningland‘s entire inventory of cheese, effectively putting the farm out of business.

On January 25, 2013, representatives from the MMB, as well as sheriff’s deputies from the Howell County Sheriff’s Department, came and seized more than 36 tons of perfectly good raw cheese from Morningland, enforcing the unjustified tyranny perpetrated by their superiors against a family farm that did absolutely nothing wrong. In other words, Morningland has now been officially put out of business by the same type of rogue government authoritarianism that our nation’s founding fathers shed their blood to escape.

Not only did the MMB and the FDA refuse to allow Morningland to have any legitimate safety tests conducted on its cheese, but they also obtained illegitimate court orders to have the cheese seized without admissible warrants, for the sole purpose of destroying the farm. There is no other explanation as to why a farm producing a wholesome, clean food product was targeted, persecuted, and ultimately eliminated for absolutely no reason.

Friends, family, and other supporters of Morningland were actually onsite to capture video footage of the MMB’s minions and sheriff’s deputies hauling off the cheese the day of the confiscation. You can view this indicting footage at the following link:

While the MMB was directly responsible for actually seizing the cheese, the Howell County Sheriff’s Department made sure the illegal seizure took place without any “physical” altercations — well, other than when Howell County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Al Jones physical swiped a video camera out of the hand of Michael Evans’ cameraman as they were capturing the incident for America’s Voice Now. The entire matter is truly disturbing, and clearly illustrates the rapid decline of America into complete totalitarianism and government dictatorship.

What We Tried: High Kicks, a Rockette-inspired dance class

Where: New York Health & Racquet Club’s 23rd street location

What We Did: A series of kick lines, marching and other Rockettes-esque choreography with instructor Alicia Harris and a real live Rockette named Barbi

For How Long: About an hour

How’d It Feel:
Meredith’s Take: Up front, Barbi looked superhuman — moving effortlessly through the elaborate steps with expression, enthusiasm and joy. In rows two through four, the rest of us kept at it in the hopes of one day being able to achieve such flawless movement (and, perhaps, such a shapely physique). While we can’t say we looked coordinated, we did get a good workout. We were sweating, working our glutes and core and learning how to get over ourselves — and throwing up a few jazz hands for good measure. For people who are used to excelling at their athletic pursuits (read: us), there is something humbling about learning new dance moves. And it was heartening to see such a diverse age range among the participants: 20-somethings next to 60-somethings, everyone getting sufficient exercise.

Sarah’s Take: I was reassured before taking the class that no dance experience was necessary — but boy, did I feel out of place. Half of the participants had already donned dance shoes before I arrived, in a running tee. It’s intimidating — and definitely humbling — to feel so out of place in a fitness class. That said, Alicia ensured us that there were no mistakes, so I committed to matching her moves to the best of my ability. But every time I felt I had nailed one move it was time in the routine to move to something else. I found myself stumbling over the moves in a way that in the end prevented me from really getting my heart rate up at all. I left feeling more mentally than physically taxed.

What Fitness Level Is Required: The class can be modified to any level of fitness depending how much razzle dazzle you want to put into those jazz hands. Some women were giving it their all while others were calmly going through the motions. While dance experience is definitely not required, it certainly won’t hurt, as there’s a good deal of dance lingo thrown about, and the steps are taught quickly.

Even a 3-second interruption can double error rate in important tasks

(NaturalNews) Interruptions of even a few seconds can dramatically increase the error rate of a person working on a complex task, according to a study conducted by researchers from Michigan State University and the Naval Research Laboratory and published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General. The study was funded by the Office of Naval Research.

The study sought to measure the effect of the brief interruptions that are now a common feature of everyday life, from the ringing of a cell phone or text message to a notification on a computer screen. The findings suggest that these interruptions can have serious consequences for people such as surgeons or airplane mechanics, who work on complex tasks that other people’s lives depend on.

“What this means is that our health and safety is, on some level, contingent on whether the people looking after it have been interrupted,” lead researcher Erik Altmann said.

In one of the first studies to measure the effect of interruptions on difficult tasks, the researchers instructed 300 people to perform a procedure that relied upon performing a specific sequence of events – thus simulating a train of thought and making participants vulnerable to forgetting where in the sequence they were. One such task consisted of hitting a key to identify whether a letter was closer to the beginning or end of the alphabet. Even uninterrupted, all participants made a small number of errors.

The researchers then interrupted some participants with instructions to type two letters, a task that lasted an average of 2.8 seconds, then return to the sequence. Even this brief interruption caused the participants’ error rate to double. A 4.4 second interruption actually tripled the error rate.

“Contextual jitter”

Notably, the participants did not exhibit any time lag between completing the interruption and resuming work. This suggests that even though the participants had forgotten where in the sequence they were, they remained unaware of this fact. The researchers labeled this phenomenon “contextual jitter.”

“When someone is momentarily interrupted or distracted and then returns to their task, they may do so without obvious hesitation, but with an increased chance of resuming at a different point in their train of thought than they might have otherwise,” they wrote.

Because the length of the interruptions was not any greater than the amount of time it took participants to complete each step of the task, the researchers did not believe that it was a disruption of their timing that produced the jump in errors.

“So why did the error rate go up-” Altmann said. “The answer is that the participants had to shift their attention from one task to another. Even momentary interruptions can seem jarring when they occur during a process that takes considerable thought.”

A way to avoid this problem, the researchers suggested, is to try and make the environments where people are performing complex, important tasks as interruption-free as possible.

“So before you enter this critical phase: All cell phones off at the very least,” Altmann said.

Regular consumption of soda associated with depression, study finds

(NaturalNews) There are many reasons to avoid soda and other soft drinks: High refined sugar levels, extreme acidity, unnatural and often toxic ingredients, and much more. According to a new study by U.S. researchers for the National Institute of Health; however, we can add another reason to the list – the regular consumption of soda, especially those that contained artificial sweeteners, can lead to depression.

The study, which was released in January 2013 and will be delivered in full at the American Academy of Neurology’s annual conference in March, studied the drinking habits of 265,000 men and women between 50-71 years old. The researchers monitored their consumption of soft drinks, teas, and coffees between the years of 1995 and 1996 and then, one decade later, asked them if their doctors had diagnosed them with depression from 2000 onwards.

The results showed that individuals who drank four or more sodas daily were 30 percent likelier to suffer from depression than individuals who didn’t drink soda, while individuals that drank diet soda were even likelier to suffer from depression than individuals who drank regular soda. Moreover, the research showed that regular coffee drinkers were 10 percent unlikelier to be diagnosed with depression than individuals who didn’t drink coffee.

“Our research suggests that cutting out or down on sweetened diet drinks or replacing them with unsweetened coffee may naturally help lower your depression risk” said Dr. Honlei Chen, the leader of the study, but added that “more research is needed to confirm these findings.”

Dr. Chen’s study for the National Institute of Health is the latest in a long line of studies documenting the negative effects of soft drinks on our overall health. In October 2012, a research team at Osaka University found that women who drink one fizzy drink per day increase their risk of a stroke by 80 percent, while a separate study by Swedish scientists for the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that men who drank one fizzy drink per day increased their risk of prostate cancer by 40 percent.

Arguably the most damning and memorable anti-soft drink study of 2012; however, is that of the biologist Dr. Hans-Peter Kubis. Dr. Kubris’s study, which was published in the European Journal of Nutrition, showed that regular soft drink consumption was directly linked to an altered metabolism, obesity, osteoporosis, an increased risk of diabetes and fatty liver disease, and just about everything else.

“Having seen all the medical evidence, I don’t touch soft drinks now,” Dr. Kubis concluded. “I think drinks with added sugar are, frankly, evil.”

(NaturalNews) Human beings are social creatures, but revealing new evidence shows that this quality is not always beneficial.

A study published last year in the journal Science found that when a person is pressured by peers, they have a tendency to form false memories and can convince themselves of different recollections of the past in order to fit what others insist is the truth.

“Human memory is strikingly susceptible to social influences, yet we know little about the underlying mechanisms,” said an abstract of the study.

“We examined how socially induced memory errors are generated in the brain by studying the memory of individuals exposed to recollections of others. Participants exhibited a strong tendency to conform to erroneous recollections of the group, producing both long-lasting and temporary errors, even when their initial memory was strong and accurate,” the abstract said. “Our findings reveal how social manipulation can alter memory and extend the known functions of the amygdala to encompass socially mediated memory distortions.”

Peer pressure convinced people they were wrong

Participants in the study watched a movie in groups, and then were questioned individually about the film afterward. Four days later, participants were questioned once more.

Researchers said that 70 percent of the time study participants changed their recollection of the film to match incorrect memories held by the others in their group, a finding that held true even for questions participants had initially felt very strongly that they had answered correctly.

Scientists involved in the study called these lapses “socially induced memory errors” because they discovered conclusive evidence that the group caused the change in answers.

“Participants were hooked up to an MRI while answering questions, and their hippocampus and amygdala lit up when changing their answers after being told the group’s memory differed from theirs, but not when a computer told them they were wrong. In other words, peer pressure convinced people they were wrong, as opposed to cold facts,” said an analysis of the study by The Raw Story.

In half of the memory errors, the false memory replaced the person’s initial, true memory.

As pointed out by Mother Jones magazine, the study’s results could explain why poll numbers indicate extraordinarily high levels of support for statements like “Obama is a Muslim” and “Obama is not a U.S. citizen” – statements that are demonstrably and provably false but which are vocally supported by several groups and media outlets.

Prior to this study there had already been evidence suggesting that people were very willing to change their stories, even if they knew they were true, due to social pressure. What makes the most recent study, by lead researcher Micah Edelson, an Israeli scientist, unique “is he used an MRI scanner while people were answering interviewers’ questions,” Mother Jones‘ Jen Quraishi wrote.

Edelson found that study participants’ hippocampi and amygdales indicated activity only when people changed answers to match those shared by their viewing group. But if they were told to change their answers by a computer, their hippocampi and amygdales did not activate; the hippocampus is associated with memory; the amygdale is linked to emotion.

Not always a bad thing

“Our memory is surprisingly susceptible to social influences,” Edelson said during a July 2011 podcast. This could be cause for concern to some people, he said, because “studies have shown that…[witnesses] often discuss crime details with each other before testifying, and this can definitely have an influence on court cases.”

Subsequent studies have indicated that toddlers, too, may also give into peer pressure.

Researchers reported that 2-year-olds are more likely influenced to copy the actions of three other toddlers than if they saw the same actions carried out by just one other toddler, according to a report by HealthDay.

That said, peer pressure sensitivity needn’t always be negative.

“The tendency to acquire the behaviors of the majority has been posited as key to the transmission of relatively safe, reliable and productive behavioral strategies,” said researcher Daniel Haun, of the Max Planck Institutes of Evolutionary Anthropology and Psycholinguistics in Germany and the Netherlands.
